FAQ

Benefits of Vitamin D2021-07-21T11:21:49+00:00

Why is vitamin D important?

Vitamin D is an essential nutrient however we recommend checking other important nutrients that are required when you are taking supplements. Magnesium and vitamin B12 are essential for vitamin D to work properly.

Vitamin D behaves more like a hormone than a vitamin as it needs to be made by the body and turned into the active D3 form. Vitamins are molecules that are not synthesised in the body.

Our understanding of the importance of vitamin D is still increasing. We know that every cell in the body has a vitamin D receptor. The immune system is particularly susceptible to poor function when levels are low. Studies have shown that when children with asthma are given vitamin D during the winter the admissions to hospital from chest infections is reduced by 55%. If you suffer from chest infections vitamin D will definitely help.

The effects of low vitamin D

Short term effects of low vitamin D
In the immediate term low levels lead to:
– Low energy levels and tiredness
– Weakness; studies have shown that athletes performance and strength continue to improve up to a level of 80 nmol/L so your level should be at least above this
– Bone problems; low vitamin D means that calcium is not correctly deposited in the bone. This can lead to osteoporosis and bone pain. Maximising bone density in your 30’s is the best protection against osteoporosis in later life.
– Low mood and depression.
Longer term
– Maximising bone density in your 30’s is the best protection against osteoporosis in later life.
– In kids long term deficiency causes rickets, soft bones that do not calcify properly and form in a bended manner
– In adults vitamin D deficiency causes a condition called osteomalacia that can cause bone pain and weakness.

Why do I need a vitamin D test

Taking vitamin D without knowing your previous levels means that you can end up having too little or too much, both are not good.

If you are taking a supplement it’s very common for it to be too little. Doses are not varied for size and weight however they should be.

If you take too much vitamin D it can cause calcium to be deposited in your arteries causing calcification. Too much vitamin D is toxic. We have found this most commonly happens when people are using sprays or drops when it is easy to overdose.

Brain growth hormone – BDNF2020-12-08T11:10:59+00:00

Brain derived neurotrophic factor BDNF helps the brain grow and regenerate.

When BDNF is low it causes depression, anxiety and poor cognition. It is a mechanism that is influenced by many factors:

  • Curcumin increases BDNF increasing cognition and mood
  • Omega 3 is necessary for the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system.
    1. Improves sleep
    2. Learning and memory
    3. Reduces depression
    4. Increase BDNF
  • L theanine
    1. Reduces stress and increase relaxation without drowsiness
    2. Reduces jitteriness with caffeine
    3. Anti stress and increases BDNF
    1. Zinc increases BDNF levels and is an important part of many enzymes. 25% of the World’s population zinc deficient 72-4

Zinc works well along with rhodiola for brain and fatigue.

  • Taurine found in meat and seafood crosses into the brain and increases short term memory by increasing BDNF.

Lifestyle factors are important for BDNF

Even the lightest exercise has been shown to increase BDNF, take a step back from your desk and have a stroll for a few minutes.

Sunlight boosts it as does maintaining a healthy BMI.

BDNF is stimulated during periods of deep sleep.

Brain support

PC (Phosphatidyl choline) and PS (Phosphatidyl Serine) have been used for a long time for health.

They work with the Omega 3 DHA in protecting the brain and in development. PC donates choline to make the end product of energy. Studies have shown that it increases memory.

PS has been shown to improve cognitive age by an average of 12 years after 3 weeks supplementation.

Can I pause or cancel my subscription, or even get extra packs?2021-07-20T12:30:42+00:00

You can cancel your supplement subscription at any stage, but we strongly recommend continuing a minimum of 12 weeks as some supplements take this length of time to show their full effect. This will allow you enough time to feel and measure the benefits of what you are taking. Have a look at our improvement timeline to find out more. Trust us, you will be amazed by the improvements you see. We recommend that you take another blood test after 16-20 weeks. This will give you the data to show which areas have improved. The results of this test will help us further refine your supplements.

If you would like to pause or cancel the subscription please contact us at help@humanpeople.co

If you would like to order an extra pack of supplements if you are going away then please contact us at help@humanpeople.co

Please note that we do not offer refunds on the tests after they have been sent.

Can I speak to one of the team?2021-01-28T15:50:36+00:00

Yes. Although we are driven by science we are powered by humans. If you want to speak to one of the team then send us a message on the contact us page or email us at help@humanpeople.co and we promise to get back to you on the same day. We’re also happy to organise a call to answer questions or support you if there are any problems throughout the process.

Do I have to do the gut test?2021-07-20T12:33:28+00:00

We really recommend doing the gut test because a healthy gut is fundamental to good health. It also affects how well you absorb supplements. The thought of taking a stool sample is a bit daunting, but the reality is that it is really easy with our kit. It also allows us to select a personalised probiotic depending on the blend of microbes in your gut. If you don’t want to do the gut test, you can start with just a blood test or a blood and DNA test. You can then easily add a gut test at a later date.
