How it works

Getting started – blood, DNA, and gut tests

To test is best

We calculate exactly what you need and deliver your personalised recommendation in daily packs.
Firstly, please complete the free online consultation. This tells us more about your current health and the areas you’d like to improve on.

A questionnaire cannot tell us your exact levels of key nutrients and biomarkers such as vitamin D, vitamin B12, folate, iron and cholesterol. For that we need to test.

So to maximise the benefits from supplements, you need to start with a blood test. We only measure blood markers that are of value and impactful. You can then track these results and see your progress over time on your personal dashboard.

Further integration of results from DNA and gut microbiome tests allows us to give you a final recommendation that is more accurate than anything else on the market. If you have 23andme you can upload this for free.

We provide fully personalised, high potency, and high quality supplements based on deep data analysis. Everything is reviewed by our doctors.
To make your life easy, supplements are delivered every four weeks in daily packs. We recommend re-testing blood every 4-6 months and gut microbiome every 12 months. Your progress is then tracked, with supplements adjusted and optimised to bring you a wide range of health benefits.

Why three tests is best

Blood

Blood tests allow us to check for essential markers: vitamin D; active B12; cholesterol and lipid profile; folate; magnesium; and omega 3 levels. We also measure HsCRP to detect inflammation.

DNA

DNA analysis offers powerful information if your consultation suggests issues with inflammation, detoxification, or your immune system.

Gut microbiome

60% of us have digestive issues. If your gut is not healthy, the body cannot absorb what it needs. Testing reveals the health of your microbiome and allows us to give you a specific targeted probiotic.

The tests

We offer a choice of three testing packages (see below) to suit your particular needs. If you already have DNA test results from 23andme or Atlas Biomed you can upload your raw data for FREE and we will integrate this with the results from your other tests. We will generate a nutrition report based on your DNA.

The supplements

Whatever testing package you choose, you will receive six high dose supplements + one high strength probiotic in your daily pack.

See our supplements page for more information on the range of supplements we offer. Our approach means that we can give higher strength supplements safely – that means better results for you. It also means you are not wasting money on supplements you don’t need.

Where do we get our supplements? We only use high quality supplements including leading brands such as Allergy Research Group, Biotics Research, Klaire, Nutriadvanced and Pure Encapsulations. Care has been taken to select highly absorbable active forms of supplements. All are GMO free.

Supplements are packed into daily packs for ease of use, that means you are only paying for supplements not expensive bottles.

Supplements cost £85 every 4 weeks. We recommend making supplements part of your long term plan to keep you in good health. As a bare minimum our supplements should be taken for at least 12 weeks because some supplements take this length of time to show their full effect. This will allow you enough time to feel and measure the benefits of what you are taking. Trust us, you will be amazed by the improvements you see. Have a look at our timeline to learn more.

FAQs

How do I get started?2021-01-28T15:51:18+00:00

You can start in one of two ways: 1) Order your preferred package from the How it Works page, then complete the free online consultation. 2) Complete the free online insulation, then order your preferred package from the How it Works page.

We have tried to give you all the information you need on the How It Works page, but just get in touch if you have any questions. Although we are driven by science we are powered by humans. If you want to speak to one of the team then send us a message on the contact us page or email at help@humanpeople.co us directly and we promise to get back to you on the same day.

Once you have ordered your test package we will send the tests to you the next working day. Your first set of supplements will be sent to you three days after returning your blood test. We’re also happy to organise a call to answer questions or support you if there are any problems throughout the process.

Can I speak to one of the team?2021-01-28T15:50:36+00:00

Yes. Although we are driven by science we are powered by humans. If you want to speak to one of the team then send us a message on the contact us page or email us at help@humanpeople.co and we promise to get back to you on the same day. We’re also happy to organise a call to answer questions or support you if there are any problems throughout the process.

How can I see my results?2021-03-08T18:22:30+00:00

You will have your own secure dashboard. Here you can see your DNA and gut microbiome reports, as well as your questionnaire scores and your blood results tracked over time.

I have already done a DNA test elsewhere. Can I use it?2021-01-24T10:04:04+00:00

Yes. If your DNA test was done by 23andme or Atlas Biomed then our software can incorporate this data. To do this you need to go to your 23andme account and search for raw data. After you have signed in, log into your account and navigate to your dashboard. Click the upload 23andme button and upload your genetic file. The results will then appear under simplified genetic report.

Remove the DNA test and just do the Blood tests and Gut tests here.

What are the options for taking blood?2021-03-08T18:15:02+00:00

There are three options for taking blood:

A. We will send a pack out to you with a finger prick kit. Click on this link to watch a video on how to take your blood test using the finger prick method: Video for taking blood test at home . The video is branded Life1000, which was the name of our pilot. We will update it with a HumanPeople video soon. The method is the same, so please don’t let this worry you.

B. Contact us at help@humanpeople.co and you can have your blood taken by a doctor at Medicetics Clinic, 37 Connaught Street, W2 2AZ.

C. If you live or work in the Greater London area, contact us at help@humanpeople.co to organise for somebody to come to take your blood at your home or workplace (cost approx £95). Please contact us IMMEDIATELY after checkout if you’d like to use this method.

What if I don’t need / want the DNA test?2021-01-24T15:55:12+00:00

If you already have an Atlas Biomed or 23andme test or do not want to do a DNA test then there is an option to remove the DNA test from the Ultimate package. This will reduce the cost of your tests by £149. Remove the DNA test on this page and then add to cart. This will remove the cost of the DNA test and allow you to upload a 23andme or Atlas Biomed test at a later date.

We do, however, recommend that you do take a DNA test to improve the level of precision of your supplement packs. If you would rather take the DNA test at a later date, that is no problem – it can be ordered through your personal dashboard at any time.

Do I have to do the gut test?2021-01-24T09:59:52+00:00

We really recommend doing the gut test because a healthy gut is fundamental to good health. It also affects how well you absorb supplements. The thought of taking a stool sample is a bit daunting, but the reality is that it is really easy with our kit. It also allows us to select a personalised probiotic depending on the blend of microbes in your gut. If you don’t want to do the gut test you can choose either the Essential or Comprehensive package on this page. You can then easily add a gut test at a later date.

HumanPeople Starter Tests

Supplements cost £85 for four weeks, what do I get?2021-01-24T10:13:02+00:00

6 high dose supplements + 1 high dose probiotic

We will chose the six supplements that are best suited to you depending on all of your tests and results. All our supplements are of the highest quality. Thanks to our ability to buy at high volumes, they are cheaper than if you were to source them yourself.

Month 1: supplements are based on your questionnaire and your blood results. You will normally receive your first pack of supplements 3 days after sending off your blood results. DNA and gut tests take on average 3-4 weeks to be analysed.

Month 2 & 3: when we have integrated the results from your DNA and gut tests your supplement pack will be changed again.

Month 4: at the end of month 3 we suggest that you retake your blood test to see how you are doing, and that you also repeat the questionnaire. This will allow us to refine further or to work on other areas that you would like to target.

Month 10: we suggest repeating the blood test again at month 10.

Month 12: repeat the gut microbiome test.

Every time we get a new result or new questionnaire input we will refine supplements. All will lead to a healthier you.

Can I pause or cancel my subscription, or even get extra packs?2021-02-15T20:23:34+00:00

You have 18 days to change your mind on the supplement subscription. We do not offer refunds on the tests after they have been sent.

You can cancel your supplement subscription at any stage, but we strongly recommend a minimum of 12 weeks as some supplements take this length of time to show their full effect. This will allow you enough time to feel and measure the benefits of what you are taking. Trust us, you will be amazed by the improvements you see. We recommend that you take another blood test after 12-16 weeks. This will give you the data to show which areas have improved. The results of this test will help us further refine your supplements.

If you would like to pause or cancel the subscription please contact us at help@humanpeople.co

If you would like to order an extra pack of supplements if you are going away then please contact us at help@humanpeople.co

Improving your energy levels

Physical signs of energy problems2020-12-08T11:03:15+00:00

Do you get out of breath walking up one flight of stairs and are you able to bound up them with ease.

Does a physical task fill you with dread or do you not think twice about it?

More obvious signs of physical energy depletion are muscle aches, cramps or joint pains.

Mental signs of energy problems2020-12-08T11:04:09+00:00

Brain fog: Do you wake up in the morning with brain fog that takes a few hours to clear or does it last all day. We have a morning burst of cortisol called the “arousal stage” that occurs in the first 30 minutes of waking. This should leave us bright for the day. If it doesn’t it may be cortisol is affecting your energy levels. Other possibilities are sleep and energy production.

Low resilience and irritability:

  • Do things that used to not bother you now irritate you?
  • Do you struggle to concentrate on a task?
  • Is your mind sharp?
  • How about your memory?

These are all signs that brain energy balance may not be right. BDNF is growth hormone for the brain and when this drops we suffer. There are lots of ways to improve this, sleep and exercise are essential. Curcumin, omega 3, Magnesium threonate are all good ways to boost BDNF as is dark chocolate!

Low mood: There are lots of reasons we suffer from low mood and chemical imbalances is one of them. Low energy production, neurotransmitter production and breakdown issues and low BDNF are all causes. Many of these can be supported to help build resilience through tough times.

Fatigue – periodic and chronic2020-12-08T11:05:37+00:00

Fatigue can be divided into something that happens periodically after certain events. It can also be something that is there all the time- chronic fatigue.

Periodic fatigue can be an exaggerated response to an event. It could be after a meal when you get an energy slump. If you do an exercise either mental or physical and have poor recovery it could be that your energy systems are struggling and have little reserves. This could be biochemical, inflammation or even a gut issue.

Chronic fatigue is when this has been going for a long time and all reserves have been used up. Chronic inflammation and chronic stress are the main culprits. Rebalancing is required. Fixing the deficiencies, remove inflammation and balance  hormones is key. Warning: lifestyle changes will likely be required. Any supplemental support will help give you energy to make the necessary changes but they will not fix the problem causing it in the first place.

Mitochondria and energy production in the body2020-12-08T11:08:05+00:00

Inside every cell there are small particle called mitochondria. They have their own DNA and some scientists have conjectured these “organelles” are actually symbiotic organisms that live in tandem with our own body.

They are found within every cell of our body and produce 90% of the chemical energy needed for life. They turn sugars, proteins and fats that we eat into chemical energy. They do much more than that too.

They break down waste products to less harmful chemicals and also recycle some of them.

They play an important part in the immune system and will kill their “host cell” if it becomes abnormal or cancerous a process called apoptosis.

The internal combustion engine in each cell requires oxygen to function. This process is called oxidative phosphorylation. This engine requires raw fuel, a sound mechanical structure and efficient removal of exhaust materials.

Brain performance and memory improvement2020-12-09T06:54:38+00:00

Brain support

PC (Phosphatidyl choline) and PS (Phosphatidyl Serine) have been used for a long time for health.

They work with the Omega 3 DHA in protecting the brain and in development. PC donates choline to make the end product of energy. Studies have shown that it increases memory.

PS has been shown to improve cognitive age by an average of 12 years after 3 weeks supplementation.

Nootropic brain boosters2021-02-25T10:46:19+00:00

Nootropics are substances that improve memory, brain power and reverse decline.

Choline  is used to manufacture neurotransmitters in the brain like acetylcholine. This is needed for learning and memory. Choline is needed for muscle movement and strength.

As well as supporting the manufacture of cells it also interacts with the brain to help balance the negative effects of stress.

Brain growth hormone – BDNF2020-12-08T11:10:59+00:00

Brain derived neurotrophic factor BDNF helps the brain grow and regenerate.

When BDNF is low it causes depression, anxiety and poor cognition. It is a mechanism that is influenced by many factors:

  • Curcumin increases BDNF increasing cognition and mood
  • Omega 3 is necessary for the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system.
    1. Improves sleep
    2. Learning and memory
    3. Reduces depression
    4. Increase BDNF
  • L theanine
    1. Reduces stress and increase relaxation without drowsiness
    2. Reduces jitteriness with caffeine
    3. Anti stress and increases BDNF
    1. Zinc increases BDNF levels and is an important part of many enzymes. 25% of the World’s population zinc deficient 72-4

Zinc works well along with rhodiola for brain and fatigue.

  • Taurine found in meat and seafood crosses into the brain and increases short term memory by increasing BDNF.

Lifestyle factors are important for BDNF

Even the lightest exercise has been shown to increase BDNF, take a step back from your desk and have a stroll for a few minutes.

Sunlight boosts it as does maintaining a healthy BMI.

BDNF is stimulated during periods of deep sleep.
