    What is measured?

Most people know DEXA scans as a way to measure bone density for osteropenia and osteoperosis. Although that is measured we also measure not only the amount of fat but also were it is situated.

Fat in the belly area (visceral fat) is the one that causes inflammation and is linked to cardiovascular disease. This can be raised in seemingly skinny people.

We also measure the amount of lean mass this is a strong indicator of longevity and is essential to maintain metabolic health.

IIf you are planning on losing weight it is highly beneficial to have both of these measured.

    ALMI (appendicular lean mass index)

ALMI measures the lean muscle mass in the arms and legs relative to height. It’s a key indicator of sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss) and is especially relevant in assessing frailty and muscle preservation during weight loss.

Total body fat % and distribution

DEXA provides not just a total fat percentage, but regional fat distribution (e.g. android vs. gynoid fat), giving insights into metabolic and hormonal patterns.

    Bone mineral desnity (BMD)

Although not always needed in body composition assessments, BMD is included by default and can screen for osteopenia or osteoporosis important during calorie-restricted or menopausal states.

    Lean mass balance

Tracking changes in lean mass across regions (trunk vs limbs) is crucial during weight loss or training to ensure fat not muscle is lost.

A gold-standard DEXA body composition scan that accurately measures fat, muscle, and visceral fat levels. Ideal for tracking fat loss, muscle gain, or metabolic health goals.
