Iodine:
Underdiagnosed deficiency: The thyroid gland is the only organ in the body that absorbs iodine, using it to produce the hormones T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine). Iodine deficiency is a global issue and remains one of the leading preventable causes of intellectual and developmental disabilities. Deficiency, like with magnesium, is often overlooked as a simple blood test cannot measure it.
Selenium:
Essential for T4-T3 conversion and autoimmune thyroid disease: Selenium is incorporated into selenoproteins, such as iodothyronine deiodinases, which are enzymes that convert inactive T4 into the metabolically active T3 hormone. Clinical studies have shown that selenium supplementation can lower thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibodies, benefiting those with autoimmune thyroid disorders.
Vitamin B12:
