The need to know
What is it?
This combination of supplements acts like a 'dream team' for your joints. Glucosamine and chondroitin are the building blocks for cartilage, which is crucial for joint health. Vitamin C helps in collagen formation, and omega-3 oils keep inflammation in check. Adding curcumin, quercetin, and marine collagen further fortifies the stack, promoting both immediate relief and long-term recovery.
The multi-pack approach means you get doses that actually work.
The Science
The scientific rationale behind this supplement stack for joint health lies in the synergistic combination of ingredients, each contributing unique properties to optimise your joint function and reduce discomfort.
Glucosamine & Chondroitin: These compounds serve as the primary building blocks for proteoglycans, specialised molecules that absorb water to make your joint cartilage spongy and resistant to compression. By doing so, they help preserve joint integrity and potentially slow down the degenerative process in osteoarthritis. Research indicates that taking them together is more effective than using either alone.
Vitamin C: This essential vitamin is crucial for the biosynthesis of collagen, a key component in many different types of tissue, including cartilage, skin, and blood vessels. It acts as a co-factor for prolyl hydroxylase and lysyl hydroxylase, enzymes essential for stabilising and cross-linking the collagen molecules, forming sturdy collagen fibres in the tissue.
Curcumin & Quercetin: These plant-based compounds possess strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Curcumin is derived from turmeric and has been shown to inhibit several enzymes and cytokines that promote inflammation. Quercetin, a flavonoid found in various fruits and vegetables, has similar anti-inflammatory effects and can synergise with curcumin to potentiate its actions.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Present in fish oils, omega-3s like EPA and DHA are known for their anti-inflammatory properties. They work by interfering with the inflammatory pathways in the body, notably the conversion of arachidonic acid into pro-inflammatory eicosanoids. This helps reduce joint inflammation, thus ameliorating pain and enhancing mobility.
Marine Collagen Powder: Collagen is a primary component of joint cartilage. Marine collagen provides a bioavailable source of amino acids like proline and glycine, which are essential for the synthesis and repair of collagen tissues. This is particularly beneficial in conditions where joint tissue may be compromised, such as osteoarthritis. The bioactive peptides inhibit MMP enzymes that become activated during inflammation and break down collagen. Results are seen at doses of 10g per day and after taking collagen for around 4 weeks.
When to take it?
Take 1 pack daily with 1 scoop of collagen powder per day first thing in the morning. High strength omega-3 can cause reflux, consuming with a small amount of yoghurt will reduce this and help with absorption.
What are the benefits?
Easier movement with less stiffness and pain in joints.
A noticeable reduction in swelling and inflammation.
Increased endurance in activities that usually strain your joints.
